Jean Luc Ponty Tours USA in 2017

Jean-Luc Ponty is a pioneer and undisputed master of violin in the arena of jazz and rock. He is widely regarded as an innovator who has applied his unique visionary spin that has expanded the vocabulary of modern music.

Ponty was born in a family of classical musicians on September 29, 1942 in Avranches, France. His father taught violin, his mother taught piano. At sixteen, he was admitted to the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris, graduating two years later with the institution's highest award, Premier Prix. In turn, he was immediately hired by one of the major symphony orchestras, Concerts Lamoureux, where he played for three years.

While still a member of the orchestra in Paris, Ponty picked up a side gig playing clarinet (which his father had taught him) for a college jazz band that regularly performed at local parties. It proved a life-changing jumping-off point. A growing interest in the jazz sounds of Miles Davis and John Coltrane compelled him to take up the tenor saxophone. Fueled by an all-encompassing creative passion, Jean-Luc soon felt the need to express his jazz voice through his main instrument, the violin.

Bruce Nazarian /Rewind

Their were many show done by  Bruce Nazarian who passed away on Friday October 9th 2015. I am sadden. but honored to share what he loved most, his  passion for music. We on The Coast Radio will continue to play Nazarian's shows  that I have archieved over the years.  Here  you will hear some of the best mixes broadcast on The Coast Radio made by Nazarian over the months.  I'm sure he would be pleased. Coming to you on Wednesday March 15th, 2017. RIP my friend, always good to hear your voice.

Detroit musician and record producer  reports say that he died of a heart attack while editing music on his computer. Soul collectors will know Bruce via his session work with Motown and Invictus, though he was also a member of Brownsville Station and in recent years he was a respected member of the LA contemporary jazz scene and he also hosted a program on Solar Radio – "The Digital Guy radio Show".

Nazarian was born in Detroit in 1949 and at school and college he became proficient on piano, sax and guitar. His first major gig was playing in pop star Brian Hyland's band before playing studio gigs. His studio credits include work with: David Ruffin, Johnnie Taylor, Barrett Strong, Anita Baker, the Spinners, The Dramatics, The Temptations and many others. Then he worked with the team at Invictus Records... he was even the featured singer on 8th Day's 'If I Could Just See The Light'. In 1975 he joined funk-rockers Brownsville Station (remember their 'Smoking' In The Boys Room'?). He left the band in 1979 and worked more sessions - and was one of the pioneers of using digital sequencing in recording and indeed, along with jazz, digital possibilities became Bruce's passion.
